Goostrey Flower Club

Back

The Goostrey Flower Club meet on the second Thursday every month with the exception of August, when we hold a garden party, and December when we have a Christmas luncheon.   We meet at 2.30pm in Goostrey Village Hall when we have either an area or a national demonstrator to entertain us for the afternoon.   Visitors are always warmly welcomed.

See the report of our May meeting as an example of what to expect when you visit us.

GOOSTREY FLOWER CLUB May 2009

An area demonstrator, Irene Bates, came to entertain members and guests with her title “Spring Into Summer” and regaled us with her amusing stories as she showed us the change of colours from spring into summer.

A pretty statuette of a girl began the afternoon which she encircled with orange roses and gerberas, lightened with bronze and cream heuchera leaves.

Irene then filled a small trug with blue, pink and white flowers for a natural look.

Next came a small tray elongated with greenery into which she arranged white and astonishingly bright pink dyed chrysanthemum, softened with dainty gypsophila, with stands of lisianthus and chinchincherees.

Irene backed this with a tall white tree bearing tree lights made of dainty gypsophila which was very striking.

An urn filled with tall dark red and short lime green foliage was filled with green chrysanthemum and peachy alstromeria to match the foliage.

Exotica followed for a summer holiday atmosphere with palm leaves, birds of paradise and yellow pointed tulips. Irene next filled a low square crystal dish with a stunning green and white selection of lilies and lilac interspersed with blue sea holly.

Finally for drama came a tall “S” bend wound with multi-coloured wool which Irene cleverly decorated with matching pastel roses, tulips and lilies.

Alison Rawlinson gave a warm vote of thanks for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon and said how lovely the stage looked with its seven beautiful arrangements.
